Builder Tim Wilkinson knew he had some of the greatest views in the area on his rural lot near Great Falls, Montana. With a home site on a cliff over looking the Missouri River valley and the distant lights of Great Falls, Wilkinson had two main goals for his home: take advantage of the one-of-a-kind view and build the home in homage to his family’s roots.
The Windows
Wilkinson chose Andersen® 400 Series casement windows, Flexiframe® specialty windows and Frenchwood® hinged patio doors for his home because they’re products he knows and trusts. Working with ProBuild and Andersen, he was confident with the level of support and service he would get for this project..
The biggest challenge was to maximize the home’s spectacular, 140-degree panorama of the river valley. Wilkinson’s window design solutions included 57 windows and three patio doors. He move the venting windows up high and used TruScene® insect screens to make the window as unobtrusive as possible. He also chose power operators for the windows, to make the look as clean as possible.
There’s even a totally open view from the master bath. Obscure glass was used in this room, and when coupled with exterior lighting, privacy is ensured both day and night.
The Design
As a woodworker, Wilkinson paid special attention not only to the performance and functionality of the windows, but the aesthetic details as well. Inspired by a family heirloom, Wilkinson mirrored the home’s Arts & Crafts design in the custom window grilles, the interior and exterior doors, the floor inlays as well as many of the furnishing choices.
Other features like the five-foot square, Travertine floor tiles with hand-chiseled edges and the custom rain wall in the home make it apparent that Tim and his wife, Darcy, built this home with loving detail. The Wilkinsons offer the same level of attention and craftsmanship to every home they build. For more information about Tim’s work, contact him at wilkinsonfinehomes@gmail.com.
